Product Details
Cascara sagrada is native to the northwestern region of North America, extending from northern California to the Alaskan panhandle, and into the Rockies of Idaho and Montana. Belonging to the Rhamnaceae family, this large deciduous shrub thrives in moist forests at an elevation below 5,000 feet. Its name means “sacred bark” and has an extensive history of use among indigenous tribes for its beneficial attributes.
Frangula purshiana bark is harvested and aged for at least one year before processing. This allows the anthraquinone glycosides inherent in the bark to break down. Non-aged bark can lead to intense intestinal spasms and vomiting from its purgative nature. Once aged it is commonly prepared as a mild laxative.
Our cascara sagrada extract is carefully created using dried, aged organic bark and organic alcohol by our skilled team at our extract facilities. The tincture can be taken in water or juice or added to teas like happy tummy tea. It combines well with other extract including chamomile or tummy care blend.
